CAPMan vs WinCAP Wizard

What are the differences between CAPMan and WinCAP Wizard, apart from Wizard having a windows style interface?

The biggest difference between the applications is in the amount and type of information provided by each.

Wizard is a complement to CAPMan not a replacement. Both applications use the same highly praised IonCAP+ prediction engine.

Wizard balances ease of use with information requirements. CAPMan goes for maximum detailed information reporting, with an associated steeper learning curve.

CAPMan is a heavy-duty application developed to make IonCAP easier to use and available to everyone.

Wizard was developed to access the power of IonCAP yet insulate the user from complexity.

CAPMan is well suited to sophisticated what-if analysis, station design, and general long term planning; although it can be used in “real time”.

Wizard is a “Propagation Browser”. It’s simpler to configure and use in a “real time interactive” manner. It’s also more fun.

CAPMan is like having a professor brief you with all pertinent propagation data. CAPMan provides many color graphics, in addition to an extensive table of hourly data.

Wizard is like having a propagation Elmer at your side. Wizard’s exclusive “smart reporting” produces up to 4 reports. All Smart Reports are in table format; the “Band Summary” and “Band Summary+” reports provide a basic, but effective, graphic-like presentation.

Both applications use a fast B-Plus tree database for their “Location Browser”. In addition to the DXCC countries list, Wizard ships with a database that includes US counties.

The Wizard “Smart Map” provides “Active-Status Indicators”. As your mouse cursor moves over the map - view: Geographic coordinates, Grid square and Sunrise/Sunset times along with Distance and Azimuth. Further, you can easily adjust from the worldwide view to a user-selected-area view.

Wizard hosts an active two-way link between its “Smart Map” and “Location Browser”. Not only can you plot database locations on the smart map, you can access locations from the map. Getting custom predictions has never been easier. Double click on an area of the smart map and you are taken to a matching entry in the location browser - from there, click the “Analysis” button and within seconds you’ll know what kind of signal you’ll have in that part of the world.

CAPMan gives the user maximum-informational flexibility. Wizard is more focused.

Wizard is great for those that don’t wish to work through lots of technical jargon. Those who simply want to know when and where to operate will appreciate Wizard.

Both applications will satisfy the informed user. The end user must decide which tool to use for a particular job.
