What is WinCAP Wizard?
WinCAP Wizard is the most powerful HF Communications Analysis Prediction package ever developed. It was primarily developed for use in an amateur radio - aka ham radio - station.
WinCAP Wizard manages an enormous amount of data with a state-of-the-art database and provides numerous unique and innovative "views" of VOACAP-propagation-prediction information.

Unfortunately, if this message isn't compelling, you will likely ignore the tool and miss the offer. Good products do indeed sell themselves. But obviously, folks must first try the product. In a vast sea of ham radio related products and tools, here is a tool you will probably like and, find very useful. Sure, you have product X, have used it for years and know it well, plus you are busy and don't have time to learn a new tool. But, does this logic keep you from acquiring new hardware, like radios, antennas and computers? Of course not.
You want free software; all of our ham radio software now defaults to freeware and provides basic functionality, sufficient for many users. The default WinCAP Wizard download is known as QSL-ware. QSL-ware basically means freeware. :-). We do appreciate an email acknowledgement and comments - thus our term QSL-ware.
The QSL-ware version of WinCAP Wizard provides the "DX Gazetteer" along with the SmartMap-Geographic View and unlimited point-to point and NCDXF beacon predictions - each tool an excellent enhancement to any ham radio station.
The DX Gazetteer
The WinCAP Wizard "DX Gazetteer" is a geographical dictionary where the focus is specifically geographic location and regional division. This extensive DX Gazetteer provides a prefix search and two-way integration with the SmartMap-Geographic View. These features alone make the QSL-ware version of WinCAP Wizard a powerful tool - but there is far more.

DX Gazetteer - Main Features:
- Powerful prefix and Canadian and US call sign searches
- More than 6600 worldwide locations including all US counties
- Selection of target for point-to-point predictions
- Plot - locate - currently selected target to the maps
- Add "stations" to the Circuit-Configuration Manager
- Add target locations to the current group in the Prediction-Batch Manager
- Distance, direction, grid sub-square, CQ and ITU zones of each location
- Incremental searching, in any column
- Tree-type display of locations
- Full customization of displayed information columns
The unique "Beacon SmartChart" and the SmartMap-Geographic View are in the QSL-ware feature set. There are 2 point-to point charts and 3 beacon charts, each with numerous options, 4 point-to point reports and 4 beacon reports - all free.
The Beacon SmartChart
The WinCAP Wizard "Beacon SmartChart" is a new and innovative view of the associated VOACAP prediction data for the 18 IARU/NCDXF beacon - ham radio - stations.

The SmartMap-Geographic View
In addition to displaying hourly data for Beacon and Prediction Batch predictions the SmartMap-Geographic View provides a world map with solar gray line.

SmartMap-Geographic View - Main Features:
- Real-time prediction data
- Point-to-point predictions - using shift click
- Location name and prefix, grid sub-square, coordinates, distance and bearing for mouse cursor location
- Find target in DX Gazetteer with Ctrl click
- Propagation predictions and gray line comparison hour and day browsing
- Best Usable Frequency display
- Short/Long great-circle path display
- Active NCDXF/IARU beacons - ham radio - and prediction information
- Locate and draw great-circle path from DX Gazetteer
The premium or registered version adds a lot of tools and functionality.
The Coverage-Analysis View
The "Coverage-Analysis View", is an elaborate map and provides numerous unique features including the ability to plot any of 7 parameters, for up to 9 frequencies and all 24 hours.
(this screen capture was decreased in size to more easily fit available space)
Coverage-Analysis View - Main Features
- Global coverage real-time prediction display
- Mouse-over prediction information
- Point-to-point predictions - using shift click
- DX List and plot to map with two way location and identification
- Prefix search with plot to map and quick point-to-point analysis
- Canadian and US ham radio station call search and plot to map
- Grid square, coordinates, location name, distance and bearing for mouse cursor location
- Hour and Day browsing
- Best Usable Frequency with band "quality indicator" display
- Short/Long great-circle path display
- Contest log plot to map with filtering
- Create animated picture views of predictions and contest logs
- Save labeled map image displays easily
View any hour and frequency for each predicted parameter with a mouse click. More? A powerful prefix/call search and DX-List plot are provided. The list goes on.
The Coverage-Analysis-Animator Preview
Use the Coverage-Analysis-Animator Preview to create animated pictures of the Coverage-Analysis view.

The files sizes of the resulting "pictures" are typically small and easily sharable via email. It's easy, in the Animator Preview Window you select the "frequency" you want for the prediction and then "check" each hour you want included in the animated picture. You can set the "delay" - the amount of time in milliseconds you want each hour or frame to remain in view before changing to the next frame.
The Default Prediction Views
WinCAP Wizard includes many other charts/graphs and reports - with many HF propagation prediction parameter display configurations, 10 reports - several providing dynamic selections - and 3 results inspectors - each with unlimited user configurations. The WinCAP Wizard charts are powerful tools with lots of options. Any chart and report can be selected to display after a prediction is created.

With so many options available, the potential of WinCAP Wizard is limited only by the imagination.
The Prediction Batch
The premium or registered version also includes the "Prediction Batch" prediction type. With the ability to analyze up to 18 unique circuits and present the results with 5 charts and 3 reports the WinCAP Wizard Prediction Batch mode is both powerful and flexible.
Special prediction-batch "views" provide definite advantages for the contest-oriented op. The Contest-Plan SmartChart and Contest-Plan SmartReport deliver incredible insight into "when to be where" during the contest. These could also be useful to the savvy DXer.

The WinCAP Wizard Contest-Plan SmartChart is a reasonably straightforward view making it ideal for real-time use throughout a contest. Configuration is quick and easy for selection of the displayed contest bands and target areas at any moment.
The Contest-Log Manager
WinCAP Wizard provides a "Contest-Log Manager" and imports Cabrillo format logs from 55 different HF contests; more contests can be added easily, upon request. This tool is obviously for use with the ham radio sport of contesting.

To our knowledge no other software exists to geocode calls for ham radio stations worldwide. Software may exist that plots US, and even Canadian, calls. Imagine the possibilities.
Notice the contacts in the screen capture above are "color coded". These colors are user selectable and each has a specific meaning. The colors are "Location-Certitude Indicators” and used as "lookup quality indicators". In other words they tell you how certain WinCAP Wizard is that the “prefix to target area” assignment for each contact is correct for the copied ham radio station call sign. The DX Gazetteer also uses these same color indicators.
The "Contest-Log Manager" logs can be plotted to the Coverage-Analysis View - with or without predictions. The logs can, of course, be filtered and plotted by day, band, hour and any combination of these.

Interactive Prefix Search
Both USA and Canadian amateur radio - ham radio - call lookup are available. The primary purpose is log station geocoding but the ability is "way cool" and proving interesting. :-) For example, using the prefix/call search on the Coverage-Analysis View, you can begin typing a ham radio call and the great-circle path is plotted; as you continue typing, the great-circle plot changes to show the prefix and - as you complete the call - the actual ham station location is plotted.

You might notice in the screen capture above that W and USA are selected in the DX list and the background is a green shade; this is the same location-certitude indicator described above - in the Contest-Log Manager section - in this example case the green shade means the ham radio call sign typed was found in the US call lookup.
The WinCAP Wizard ham radio prefix search features are among the finest available. The QSL-ware version also benefits as the DX Gazetteer provides the ham radio DX prefix to location look up functionality.
The Calls Manager
The amateur radio - ham radio - USA and Canadian Calls Managers provide a searchable directory of calls issued by the respective country.

Additionally a point-to point VOACAP propagation prediction can be created to any station call with a mouse click. Further any call can be selected as the primary station from which all predictions are made and any call can be quickly added to a “prediction batch”.
WinCAP Wizard provides an extensive set of powerful tools. Hopefully users will be able to easily do complex and interesting comparisons - that previously were too labor intense and time consuming.
Sorry - we can't detail all the advantages here - this is likely too long already. However if all this isn't enough, the premium registered WinCAP Wizard package includes GeoAlert-Extreme Wizard and Beacon Time Wizard, as a free bonus.
