The Station Location

There are three types of "Station Locations" -

  1. The "default station" is always used for one end of a circuit when doing all four types of predictions. For a "forward" circuit it's selected on the Circuit-Configuration Manager "Station" page. When the circuit is "reversed" the "Station" page is replaced with a "Receiver" page and the "Reversed-Circuit Receiver". In either case the "Station-Parameters Manager" always shows the current station.
  2. The "prediction station" is the "station" that was the "default station" when the prediction was created. Note - when you view a prediction later, the "default station" described in #1 above may have changed.
  3. The "contest-log station" is, of course, the station from which the contest was worked. As any compatible log can be imported, the contest-log station can obviously be different from either or both the "default station" and prediction station.

Here are brief descriptions of how the three station types are used and how they interact.

DX Gazetteer -

As shown in the partial screen capture below, the window "title bar" of the DX Gazetteer shows the current "station" name and coordinates.

The station used by the DX Gazetteer is always the "default station" described above. This location is used to calculate the azimuth and distance values shown in the DX Gazetteer; these change only when the "default station" location is changed as described in #1 above.

SmartMap-Geographic View -

When first accessed, the window "title bar" of the SmartMap-Geographic View shows the current "default station" name and coordinates described in #1 above.

When a Beacon or Prediction Batch type prediction is displayed on the SmartMap, the station and "center location" change to match the "prediction station" described above in #2. The title bar also changes to show the "prediction station" name and coordinates. The "default station" location described in #1 above does not change.

Coverage-Analysis View -

When first accessed, the window "title bar" of the Coverage-Analysis View shows the current "default station" name and coordinates described in #1 above.

graphic/coverage-map-title-bar.png

When a coverage prediction set is displayed on the Coverage-Analysis map, the station and "center location" change to match the "prediction station" described above in #2. The title bar also changes to show the "prediction station" name and coordinates. The "default station" location described in #1 above does not change.

Plotting Information -

The "prediction station" always has priority over a "contest log station" when both are plotted on the coverage view.

When a contest log is plotted on the Coverage-Analysis View, if "no prediction is displayed", the "contest-log station" becomes the "center location" shown and used for the map view, and the title bar changes to show the "contest-log station" name and coordinates. Again, the "default station" location described in #1 above does not change.

When a contest log is plotted in the coverage analysis view, the "default station" location - just described - is "overridden" with the contest log "station". If a prediction is then displayed, the "prediction station" location becomes the center for the coverage analysis view. Yes, it sounds complicated - and is indeed a bit confusing - but is simple, logical and powerful.
