Things to Try With a Prediction Batch

Here we begin a list of things you might want to do with a prediction batch. We encourage you to submit your ideas for inclusion. Tutorial - Prediction Batch

  • Compare long-great-circle path and short-great-circle paths - Create a "prediction batch" group with the same location included twice. Set one circuit up for short path and the second circuit for long path. You can see both circuits at the same time using the "comparison" chart and reports. You probably want to add some type of indication in the "prefix" or "city" field of each circuit - in the Prediction-Batch Manager - to distinguish between the two. For example in "prefix" of the short path circuit, change to "G-sp" and the long path circuit prefix to "G-lp".
  • Examine how the predicted data changes as the day passes and the area of the earth in daylight and darkness changes - Create a prediction batch with your favorite DX targets – or use the included batch of DX-expedition targets. This is also interesting to try with non-DX type targets. Open the SmartMap-geographic view and enable the “prediction batch” display. Maximize the map window so it’s easier to see. Note the time-of day, or displayed data hour, button near the lower right of the window – click the “left” or “right” pointing arrow to decrease or increase the hour of the displayed data together with the solar gray line. As you change the time of day try various prediction parameters like Mode, TAngle (take-off angle), SNR, etc. Change the frequency of the displayed data and try again. You can easily create similar predictions for different months, or the four seasons – marked by January, April, July and October.
